2012 Seed Fund Recipients Announced

Even before the completion of construction, the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) has sparked research collaboration among Boston’s research universities on a variety of significant scientific challenges, awarding $600,000 in seed grants to seven multi-university teams on issues ranging from the ecosystem off the New England coast to medical imaging to the speed of computing itself.

Ninety miles west of Boston, in one of the poorest cities in Massachusetts, arguably the most significant public/private collaboration in state history between government, industry and academia is taking shape. Five of the state’s premier research universities, two global technology corporations and the administration of Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick are partnering to develop the state’s first high performance computing center. The center and related initiatives will strengthen the state’s position as the leading knowledge economy state in the nation and extend the reach of the Massachusetts’ innovation economy far beyond greater Boston.

Dear Holyoke Innovation District Task Force Members:

As calendar year 2011 winds down, Kathy Anderson and I are pleased to share with you news of significant progress that is already being made toward the successful implementation of the recently released Innovation-based Economic Development Strategy for Holyoke and the Pioneer Valley. Although we are in the very early stages of implementation, there’s already an impressive list of initiatives and accomplishments that clearly demonstrate momentum towards our shared goals for Holyoke and the region at large.

Please take a few moments to review the attached document which contains a description of each of the projects already underway as we move towards the new year. You each played a significant role in harnessing this forward momentum and we want to thank you for your contributions and dedication to this project. This is just the beginning and we look forward to sharing news of many more successes with you in 2012 and beyond.

Gov. Deval Patrick to lead ceremony at super-computing center

HOLYOKE – Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and other officials are scheduled to attend a ceremony marking the completion of one phase of construction at a super-computing center in Holyoke.

An Ironworkers union local is scheduled to place the final beam on the steel structure Tuesday morning.
